Pier Pressure 2016

Pier Pressure 2016 started as a spark of an idea late in 2015 following Ruth’s fight with Breast Cancer. We wanted to conceive a unique challenge to raise money for some great causes that had helped save both her life and her sanity.

We collected for the wonderful national charities of Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK. At a local level we also raised funds for the Georgina Oncology Unit at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley where Ruth was successfully treated last year.

The result of that idea was that between August 12th and 22nd 2016, 3½ of us visited 57 British Victorian promenade and pleasure piers, travelling nearly 2500 miles in 10 days. We did this in 2 hand built VW based beach buggies and averaged around 250 miles a day around the Welsh, Scottish and English coastline.

We (Ruth & Chad) with our 9 year old son Alex used our Turquoise Doon beach buggy for the challenge and were joined by our truly amazing friend George in his Yellow FF buggy. We were supported along the way by 57 other buggy and kitcar owners and friends from around Britain (and the Netherlands)who joined us for parts of the journey. This resulted in one great ‘Cruise against Cancer’.

Although our challenge is now complete if you can still spare a pound or two to support our charities, that would be brilliant. Our Just Giving page will remain open for any future donations, just click the donate button at the top of the page.
